Water Softeners Are The Best Energy Savers in the UK

READ ABOUT THE BEST ENERGY SAVING DEVICE YOU CAN BUY THIS YEAR!!!

Recent research shows that installing a water softener in your home can be very effective in reducing energy bills – and with massive price increases from the utility companies, now might be the time to talk to your local water softener dealer.

All of the energy companies have now raised their prices by an inflation-busting hike for gas and for electricity. Faced with nearly £100 extra to pay on “dual fuel” household bills, cutting down on consumption has now become an imperative if families are not to face real financial hardship this coming year.

One of the less obvious measures by which a household, in the UK, can save energy is to install a water softener. Yet, recent major independent research conducted has concluded that water softeners are amongst the ‘very best’ household energy savers. The research was undertaken over 9 months at a cost of over £250,000 and was commissioned by the Water Quality Research Foundation (WQRF) – a not-for-profit association that provides public information about water treatment matters.

In hard water areas, in the UK,  the energy savings of a household with a water softener compared to one without were estimated at 10% and may be higher depending on the water hardness in the area. As a consequence of this study, the WQRF is now promoting water softeners as ‘The best energy saving device you can buy’.

Mr. Oliver Ginty of EW Technologies advises, “It’s well established that the limescale, in hard water areas, causes damage to household plumbing and domestic appliances. It means boilers, central heating systems, immersion water heaters, irons, dishwashers, and washing machines run less efficiently and you end up having to replace costly appliances far more often than necessary."

“What has been less well known is just how important water softeners can be in actually reducing energy bills – as this new research has revealed. So homeowners facing record utility bills this winter might want to put installing a water softener at the top of their list of ways to help offset these massive energy price rises.”

Get Soft Water with EWT Water Softeners

Did you know that English households in hard water areas can use up to 50 percent less detergent for laundry and dishwashing by installing a water softener?

Fact: 70 percent of households across the UK have hard water. Using hard water can be costly – hard water causes boiler inefficiencies and requires more detergent and soap to get dishes and clothes clean.

Using EWT Water Softeners Saves You Money

A recent study by the Water Quality Association discovered that you can use 50 percent less detergent to wash clothes or run your dishwasher with soft water at home. Soft water saves you money by reducing the need for hot water to clean laundry. People in the UK may be unaware of how much hard water costs them in the form of cleaning supplies, hot water useage and plumbing repairs. EW Technologies' range of water softeners are designed to provide flexibility to UK households and help them avoid the adverse consequences of using hard water.

Where Does the Limescale in My Water Kettle Come From?

Depending on which part of the UK you live in, you may notice that the bottom of your hot water kettle has sediments or “white bits” stuck to its heating element. These “white bits” are what’s commonly know as Limescale: a mixture of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate which is dissolved in your water supply. When heated above 61°C, these minerals precipitate out of hard water to form limescale or the sediments which you see at the bottom of your water kettles.

What’s the Best Way to REMOVE LIMESCALE from My Water Kettle?

Here are two simple ways to remove limescale from your hot water kettle:

1. Just Add Vinegar – It’s not just for chips you know!

  • •  Fill a cup with half water and the other half with white vinegar.
  • •  Throw into your water kettle, bring to the boil and leave overnight.

The acid in the vinegar helps break down the limescale build-up and all you need to do the next morning is simply rinse out your water kettle. You should have a sparkling, crystal clean hot water kettle again. (well, at least for a few days, until the limescale starts building up again)

2. Try Lemon Juice – Great for Gin and Tonics, Also Great for Removing Kettle Limescale

The citric acid in lemon juice works better in a lot of cases, than vinegar, in removing limescale from hot water kettles. Lemon juice also leaves a refreshing lemon smell in the bottom of your water kettle.

To get limescale removed with lemon juice, try the following steps:

  • •  Fill a cup with 50% water and 50% lemon juice and boil the mixture in your water kettle.
  • •  Keep overnight and rinse out in the morning.

You’ll soon be having that perfect cup of tea again, without worrying about limescale – what’s floating in the bottom of your water kettle.

REMOVE LIMESCALE FOREVER with EWT WATER SOFTENERS

Of course, both these limescale removing solutions only have a temporary effect. As the limescale builds-up, these limescale removal methods will have to be repeated each week or once a month, depending on how much limescale you have in your water supply.

To remove 100% limescale forever from your home and save up to €1000 per year for your family check out our water softener cost savings calculator online.

Good luck with cleaning your hot water kettles – I’m so happy I don’t have to do it anymore.

Top Tips for Saving Water and Helping the Environment!

by Darragh Durkan

The earth is made up of approximately 71% of water, of which 97.5% is sea water and is not suitable for human consumption without proper water filtration.

The purpose of this blog is to help people understand the value of that 2.5% of pure water which we can use and, in doing so, introduce a few water saving methods to their daily routine, some of which you probably don’t notice you are doing!

After searching online, I came across a few hundred top tips; so after sorting, here is the top 10! As always, if you have any tips to add, please do in the comment box below!

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #1

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #2

By simply running your washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full, you can save up to 4000 litres of water a month!

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #3

Monitor your water bill, this can and will save you money but, it will also make you aware of leaks on underground piping or faulty ball valves (such as on your water storage tank or in a toilet) before much more water gets lost.

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #4

When gardening, try watering your garden early morning or late, in the evening, as this will mean there is less evaporation and your garden gets more water.

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #5

There are some very effective showerheads available which will reduce water usage in the shower without you noticing less pressure or that you're using less water! So, use a water-effective showerhead to save water and have a great shower.

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #6

When showering, if you were to shorten your shower by 1 minute, you could save 350 litres of water per month.

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #7

Simply by using only 1 glass for your water each day and 1 mug for your days coffee and tea will reduce the amount of times you need to run a dishwasher or use water to clean them, thus, saving water.

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #8

Teaching children to double check whether the water tap is closed off, after usage, will stop water waste and help water saving. This will often give a child the knowledge that water is precious and that water must be carefully saved.

EWT WATER SAVING TIP #9

Instead of hand-washing your car, water consumption is reduced by using a commercial car wash which recycles water. Save water by using a commercial car wash which recycles water.
